Take a look at our planning journey
FLY Girls meetings: Every Tuesday at lunch
Reflections:
This year continue to bring a lot of challenges to accomplish the goals planned. Our group lacked the confidence in public speaking skills at the beginning of the year so we decided to start practicing affirmations to build our self-esteem. This was the idea behind the weekly affirmation stories on our instagram. As the year progress and we got more practice with planning and hosting activities, Fly girls started being more out in the school community.
We learned that students were still struggling with appropriate ways to socialize and at the beginning of our activities we had limited participation, but the more events we did the more students felt comfortable participating. In regards to gardening, students were able to expressed a feeling of calmness when touching soil and feeling a sense of responsibility at the school community after planting in the garden. This reinforced our belief that nature has a been impact on mental health and building a sense of belonging.
One thing we would change is be able to manage our time better to have opportunities to do more events. And an area of growth is being more comfortable in the civic engagement area. We felt we could of done more for that area to make a bigger difference in the community.
