The FLY Girls mission is to rebuild our community after the devastation Covid-19 left behind including our physical health, mental health, isolation from one another. As future leaders the FLY girls seek to educate on skills student need to engage with one another and become an active part of building our sense of community, holding one another responsible for our campus and community and providing opportunities for our students to socially re-engage with eachother in a positive, healthy and appropriate manner.
Project need
Given the emotional impact COVID-19 had on students, we believe that our campaign can improve many aspects of the students’ mental health including mood, concentration, self-esteem, and social bonds. Students have been struggling with social connection, pride in their school, negative coping of stressors and sources of anxiety. We have found evidence of this by the increase in conflicts and fights on campus, disciplinary concerns, defacing our school campus, and students seeking mental health support. We want to change this by giving students access to healthy and positive outlets and activities on campus, bring awareness about the importance of mental health and providing leadership opportunities. We believe that if students feel connected and have a sense of responsibility to their school campus and staff, the school culture will have a positive change. We want to create unity throughout the school and also involve the staff in this change. We know if staff is invested in our school and students, students will fel that energy as well.
